ReelDump and ClipShare

I've mentioned options for sharing videos online on this blog before but there's a couple of new options. ReelDump is a site for sharing just 3d CGI work in progress, show reals, trailers and finished work. It has all the features you would expect, tags, channels and ratings as well as a search capability.

If you want to roll your own video sharing site you can do what I've done on the Flea Film Video Gallery and use the Youtube API. However if you want more control and sophistication then you could use the same technology as ReelDump which is called Clipshare a PHP/MySQL solution which at €153 is good value for money, check that your hosting company can support this solution as it's quite demanding with regards what needs to be installed.

I really like Clipshare's potential, but the support issue is driving me batty. After waiting days for a response to my question, "Are you still in business?", I finally got a response saying they were. I just sent a list of additional questions to them -- I certainly hope they are much more prompt this time. Primarily, I want to know if the site can be converted to a picture sharing site. And why the hell is their user forum still offline?? It still says "Moving to a different server. Rebuilding forum permissions." I'm not an expert, but how long does that bloody take?? As a first time user, I want to use Clipshare's community forum to reach out to other developers! As far pre-sales service goes, it's sorely lacking. I can only imagine post-sales support....

For picture sharing, you might want to look at Gallery2 which can be used standalone or it can be integrated into you blogging or CMS system such as Wordpress or Drupal, there's over 30 integrations listed on their site and suggestions for how to itegrate into any other.
